But the controls to build these materials yourself are exactly the same. The main drawback is that you cannot use V-Ray materials from Max or Maya directly, so you do not get all the libraries, that you can use from the other applications. (yet?)įrom what I found the exporter let’s you use V-Ray to it’s fullest. Basically you can use it for faster previews, but it is not interactive. VrayRT works, but in a still quite restricted way. When Blender2.49 and V-Ray 1.5 were fun to play with, yet quite stable and powerful, the combination of Blender2.5 and V-Ray totally rocks. There is one way to make sure Andrey keeps on working on the exporter and that is to support the development by either hiring him directly or at least sponsor him with donations (buying the V-Ray exporter). But of course, if the development is done directly by the company like in Thea’s case it is somewhat safer. So I think the development is in good hands. He was very quick to implement new features of V-Ray2.0. Andrey has been working and improving it continuously for several years now and did a great job fixing bugs and update it to 2.5. The V-Ray Exporter development is pretty reliable i would say.
